A BILL granting a 10-day bereavement leave with full pay to government and private employees has been filed at the House of Representatives.

House Bill (HB) 2345 was filed in July by Tingog Representatives Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre.

HB 2345 "shall allow the employee to take a leave from work to grieve and recover from the loss without sacrificing his income," Romualdez and Acidre said in the bill's explanatory note.

The bill covers attending or making arrangements for the funeral of one's spouse, parent, child, sibling or a relative within the third degree of consanguinity or affinity.

"Nothing in this act shall be construed to reduce existing benefits granted under existing laws, decrees, executive orders, or any contract, agreement, or policy between the employer and employee," the bill read.

The leave "shall not be used as reason for" demotion or termination.

A similar measure was proposed in the 17th and 18th Congresses.
