SEN. Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go vowed to continue former president Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs and criminality through legislation.

In a statement on Sunday, Go said that when the Duterte administration assumed office in 2016, "it took on a slew of issues and challenges besetting the Philippines, particularly the illegal drugs and high crime rate."

He said the crime rate dropped by 73.76 percent from 2016 to 2021.

"I fully support President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. and his administration's continuance of what president Duterte had started," Go said in Filipino.

"All that I had worked hard for in the last six years were not for my own good but for the future of our children and the next generations," he said. "If you contain illegal drugs, you also address criminality and corruption."

Among the measures he filed are Senate Bill (SB) 428 which seeks to establish a Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in every province, under the supervision of the Department of Health.

The center will provide care, treatment and accommodation to drug dependents; enhance their physical, psychological and social capability to cope with common problems; and provide after-care, follow-up and social reintegration services.

"Drug addicts should be treated as victims in desperate need of medical, psychological, and spiritual assistance, with the goal of reintegrating back into society as healthy and productive citizens," said Go.

"Dapat bigyan po natin sila ng pagkakataon ng panibagong buhay (We should give them the chance to lead a new life)," he said.

Go also filed SB 419 which provides for a Magna Carta of benefits for the officers and personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

He stressed that anti-drug agents have been at the frontline of the war against crime and illegal drugs.

Go also filed SB 422 that aims to provide free legal assistance to any officer or enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police who face charges arising from the performance of their duty.
