LEGAZPI CITY: To alleviate the plight of displaced workers and disadvantaged communities, the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) in Bicol infused P9,915,000 funds into the local government unit of Tigaon, Camarines Sur to assist the 2,644 vulnerable members of the communities.

Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita, DoLE Bicol regional director, handed the check to the local government of Tigaon, Camarines Sur through Mayor Pamela Rinah Fuentebella as salaries of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad) program beneficiaries.

Tupad is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment to displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

At least 2,644 workers from the most vulnerable sector in Tigaon, Camarines Sur will commence their 10-day work period through the Labor department's Tupad beneficiaries in the third week of September.

Among the beneficiaries include locally stranded individuals, solo parents, parents of child laborers, rebel returnees and displaced workers. They come from the 23 villages of Tigaon.

The identified beneficiary will be engaged in cleaning roads and public facilities, which will entitle them to receive P345 for the daily work equivalent to P3,450 based on the new prevailing minimum wage in the Bicol Region.

Beneficiaries will be covered with accident insurance for one year. The agency will also provide personal protective equipment and basic concepts on occupational safety and health and financial literacy as part of the package of assistance to be given to the 2,644 workers.

Angara-Campita said the Labor department in Bicol is committed to providing effective temporary employment opportunities to needy workers in the region, particularly to those who have lost their jobs or livelihood due to the pandemic.
